There's an old saying that "Philmont is a magic place". Have you ever wondered what that means?
The photos and essays below capture some of the magic. Timeless themes that include unusual crew activities, cool scenery, and items of patriotism or reverence.

1st Place: Venture Crew 1716: Top of the world at Cathedral Rock: Philmont is truly Scouting’s paradise! 2nd Place: Venture Crew 1716: A fiery sunrise at Ewells Park provides morning inspiration before the climb to the top of Mt Baldy. 3rd Place: Troop 1701: Miles to hike each day in the vast, open mountains -- from Anasazi to Dean Cow to Tooth Ridge.
1st Place: Troop 742: Blown away! Black powder provides much needed ventilation for Scoutmaster’s bandana at Clear Creek. 2nd Place: Troop 275: Atop Wilson Mesa, inspired by a dramatic view of the Colorado Rockies. 3rd Place: Troop 742: Riding the mountain! On the trail between Abreu and Fish Camp overlooking the Rayado River Valley.
1st Place: Troop 1615 - "Old Glory" integrates the themes of leadership and patriotism on a Philmont high adventure.
2nd Place: Troop 96 - "Philmont rocks!" captures fellowship & camaraderie amongst amazing Tooth of Time rock formations.
3rd Place: Troop 1037 - "Taking it all in" provides a glimpse of how it feels when you succeed in a personal challenge to "bag a peak".
